A fantastic trip to Siena to recce the area for our 2020 Strade Bianche event!!
We arrived on the Thursday night to a stunning cottage style accommodation in the middle of the course, which made it perfect for watching the race on Saturday from several spots. A quick spin on the beautiful white Tuscan roads to get a feel for the area and settle in. Our accommodation was superb with all the facilities for bike storage and cleaning as well as being secure. The cottage was comfortable and warm, with cooking and clothes washing facilities.
Friday we were up and out in the fresh air with the sun shining on our backs. We did the full route, around 190 km and what a route it was. We also realised doing it the day before meant that the roads were in the best condition, in preparation for the race on Saturday- far better than doing the sportive race on the Sunday, after the professional have hammered it. Along the route we found some beautiful cafes with fantastic Tuscan food and coffee for just a few Euros.
Saturday- the big day! We rode out to watch the action on two fabulous climbs before heading back for a quick shower and then to the centre of Siena to watch the finish and soak up the atmosphere with a couple of well earned apperitivi as the sun went down. The perfect end to the perfect short break in Siena!
